Ouray Hot Springs
Developed pool · Ouray
Ouray Hot Springs Pool is a city-run mineral pool and fitness center at 1220 Main Street in Ouray, with steep canyon walls rising right behind it. Its water comes from two sources. About 100 gallons per minute of 150°F water runs by gravity from Box Canyon, more than a mile away, and a well adds roughly 190 gallons per minute at 117°F. The water is sulfur-free and flows through the pools continuously.
There are five pools. The Overlook Pool is the hottest, at about 102–106°F, and the Hot Pool runs 95–103°F. The Lap Pool is cooler at 75–83°F. A shallow pool (82–92°F) opens from Memorial Day to mid-August, while the Activity Pool, 32–80°F, serves as a cold plunge in winter. Summer adds water slides, a volleyball net, a rock wall and a rolling log, and there is an adults-only soaking section.
No reservations are needed. Public hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with 10 to 11 a.m. held for members. Admission is $30 for adults 18–64, $24 for seniors 65–74, $10 for those 75 and over, and $18 for youth 3–17, and children under 3 are free. Unlimited slides cost $5 extra, and active and retired military and their dependents get 20 percent off with ID. The city also runs a fitness center, swim lessons and watsu aquatic bodywork on site.

Before you go
Best time to visit: The pools are open all year, and reviewers like both warm summer afternoons, when the slides and shallow pool are open, and cold evenings soaking in the hottest pool. The slides close earlier than the pools, so families should go in the afternoon. Summer weekends can feel crowded, with little shade, so a weekday or evening is calmer.
- Come in the afternoon with kids. The slides and other summer extras close earlier in the evening than the pools, and a few reviewers say they missed them.
- Bring a swimsuit and towel, and shade or sunscreen in summer. Reviewers say the deck has limited shade.
- Start in the hottest pool and use the cooler ones to move around. Reviewers like having several pools at different temperatures.
- Expect to pay extra for add-ons such as slides, so check the total before you go. Several reviewers found the full cost higher than the entry price.
- Check the pool and slide hours on the day you visit. A few reviewers say some pools or the 'fun' area were closed.
